China’s 10-year government bond yield fell to around 1.67% on Thursday, staying near its lowest level since July 2025 despite a broad global bond selloff. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States and China had agreed to extend their trade truce by two months through January 10, but China has not publicly confirmed the expiration date. The proposed extension is shorter than the three-to-six-month continuation some US officials had previously suggested. Chinese yields moved lower as stronger-than-expected US economic data and weak demand at a Treasury auction pushed yields across much of the US curve to their highest levels in nearly two decades. The yield premium, or additional return demanded for holding US Treasuries over Chinese government debt, remained close to a record high.
