The NZX 50 closed little changed at 13,825 on Thursday after gaining in the morning, following losses in the previous session. Energy, industrial and financial stocks advanced, but declines in technology, communication services and real estate shares limited the broader market’s gains. Traders remained cautious as higher oil prices added to uncertainty around US-Iran talks. RBNZ Governor Anna Breman recently warned that inflation could rise if elevated oil prices persist. Attention also turned to the Trump-Xi summit, where artificial intelligence and tariffs are expected to be discussed. In the United States, Wall Street ended lower overnight as a surge in Treasury yields drove a market sell-off and increased expectations for a Federal Reserve interest-rate hike. Briscoe Group fell 4.2%, Gentrack Group declined 3.7%, ANZ Group dropped 2.5% and Mainfreight shed 0.7%. Colonial Motor gained 3.7%, Delegat Group rose 1.4% and Freightways Group advanced 0.7%.
