The Sun Yuchen Prize has placed its first batch of awardees under a 14-day public review period starting Sept. 19. The official candidate register on GitHub lists six problems—Nos. 305, 371, 381, 526, 866 and 1001—for which the public can submit formal challenges. Candidates for Nos. 305, 371 and 381 are formal verifiers (researchers who turn mathematical claims into machine-checkable proofs), while Nos. 866 and 1001 have mathematical problem solvers; No. 526 includes both types of candidates. The prize describes itself as the world’s first problem-list-based, zero-trust decentralized academic bounty mechanism, offering up to $1 million for a single problem. When it was established, it announced 66 initial mathematical problems and awarded the top $1 million prize to the OpenAI research team for its solution and formal proof concerning the existence and smoothness of the three-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations. The operator also published the prize pool’s on-chain address, which holds $10 million. After the review period, rewards will be paid in USDT through TRC20 or USDC through ERC20, and recipients will receive certificates and medals.
