Mysten Labs has released Sui testnet v1.80.1, which uses protocol version 137 and updates several layers of the network stack. The build changes Move execution, gas accounting, GraphQL (an API query language), JSON-RPC and archival services. It makes Ristretto255 range-proof verification cheaper and capable of handling larger batches, moves the GraphQL subscription root into the production schema for operators who enable it, and expands package-query support through a Bigtable-backed gRPC archival service. The release is a testnet deployment, not a completed Sui mainnet upgrade, so observed performance and behavior should not be treated as live-network results. Developers, wallets, indexers, trading systems and infrastructure operators can use the staging environment to identify compatibility issues before any protocol 137 changes potentially reach mainnet. The release also highlights the importance of testing tooling against Sui's fast release cadence, particularly where GraphQL, JSON-RPC and execution changes could affect existing assumptions.
