The Swiss National Bank kept its policy rate at 0% on the 24th, marking a fifth consecutive unchanged decision and matching market expectations. The central bank said its stance remains appropriate for price stability and economic development. Inflation rose to 0.8% in August from 0.6% in May, mainly because of higher energy prices, and the SNB expects it to rise further in the fourth quarter before easing through 2027. It forecasts average inflation of 0.7% in 2026 and 0.8% in both 2027 and 2028. Recent weakening of the Swiss franc against major currencies has remained a factor in the policy outlook, while the SNB has kept open the possibility of intervening in foreign-exchange markets when necessary.
