U.S. President Donald Trump said artificial intelligence will feature prominently in his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 24th, while signaling opposition to new safeguards or regulations. In a Truth Social post, Trump used "Super Intelligence" in place of AI, said he wanted development left as it was and that China held the same position, and described the Department of Justice as the safeguard. His comments came amid growing calls for stronger AI safety standards. At the United Nations General Assembly on the 22nd, Trump also opposed an international framework governing AI. U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said on the 15th that the Justice Department is not an AI regulator but would investigate criminal-law violations involving the technology. Trump separately said he greeted Xi on arrival in the United States the previous day and praised Xi and Peng Liyuan.
