Amazon plans to invest more than $100 million in a 585,000-square-foot robotics manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana, expected to open by 2028. The plant will supply parts for Amazon’s North American fulfillment and robotics operations and create 300 manufacturing and engineering jobs with average annual salaries of nearly $100,000. It will use advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating, assembly, and cloud- and artificial intelligence-powered manufacturing systems. The Greenwood site will be Amazon’s fourth robot-making plant, following an Austin, Texas, facility announced last month; together, the two projects will double the company’s robotics manufacturing capacity. Amazon says it has manufactured more than one million robots in the United States, deploying them across more than 300 facilities where they assist with 75% of customer orders worldwide. The company cited Indiana’s manufacturing workforce, logistics infrastructure, existing footprint and an available tax abatement as reasons for selecting Greenwood.
