Databricks has acquired Row Zero, a cloud spreadsheet startup whose technology will be integrated into Genie, the company’s AI platform for enterprise data. The combination is intended to give finance, operations and go-to-market teams a familiar grid-based interface for working with live data while preserving security controls, user permissions and audit trails. Row Zero can handle more than one million live spreadsheet rows, and its technology will run on Databricks’ Genie Ontology and connect with Unity Catalog and Unity Gateway. The companies are targeting the common practice of exporting enterprise data into disconnected spreadsheet files, which can weaken governance and oversight. Databricks said the product will support human users and AI agents, work across major cloud platforms and continue to connect to data sources outside its ecosystem. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The transaction adds to Databricks’ broader expansion into enterprise AI infrastructure, following a recent funding round that valued the company at roughly $190 billion and acquisitions including Panther Labs, Quotient AI, SiftD.ai and Electric.
