Meta Platforms overtook Space Exploration Technologies, commonly known as SpaceX, to become the world’s seventh-largest public company by market capitalization as investors responded to early traction for its Muse AI assistant. Meta was valued at roughly $1.72 trillion at Thursday’s close, compared with SpaceX’s $1.14 trillion, while its shares had gained 36% since Muse launched on Sept. 8 and the company added nearly $200 billion in market value. Muse recorded approximately 2.8 million downloads in the United States and Canada during its first twelve days, according to Reuters data. The rally followed CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s description of Muse as the centerpiece of Meta’s vision, although investors continued to assess rising AI spending, declining free cash flow, Reality Labs costs, legal claims related to social media addiction and the product’s potential advertising, subscription and e-commerce revenue.
