The UK GfK Consumer Confidence Barometer rose to -13 in September 2026 from -14 in August, exceeding the Reuters poll forecast of -16 and reaching its highest level since August 2024. Households became more optimistic about their personal finances, which reached an eight-month high, while confidence in the economic outlook also hit its strongest level since August 2024. Separate YouGov/Cebr and LSEG/Ipsos surveys recorded their highest readings since February, although BRC/Opinium and S&P Global reported declines. GfK consumer insights director Neil Bellamy said worsening inflation prospects, alongside higher energy and fuel prices, could weigh on households. The headline measure remains firmly negative.
