Italian energy major Eni will cap prices at its Enilive stations from Sept. 28 at €2.19 per litre for diesel and €1.99 for petrol, about 17 cents below current average levels. The caps will initially last 30 days and could be extended through the end of 2026, depending on fuel-market conditions and supply trends. Eni linked the measure to excise-tax relief in force in Italy and said it has absorbed part of the increase in international fuel costs since March. The intervention comes as geopolitical disruptions, tighter refined-product availability and the closure of nearly 30 European refineries over 15 years expose the region to supply shocks. Eni is continuing to invest in Italian downstream operations, including biorefineries in Venice and Gela and the transformation of its Livorno site, while shifting toward biofuels and other lower-carbon products. The move adds to government efforts to contain energy costs and could affect debate over a possible windfall tax on energy companies.
