Costco Wholesale Corp. shares rose 2.6% to $919.50 on Friday after the retailer reported fourth-quarter revenue and earnings per share above analyst estimates. Executives said higher gasoline prices drove more members to Costco locations and increased visits, with U.S. member households buying gas reaching an all-time high in fiscal year 2026. Costco estimated that members saved more than $3.2 billion against average pump prices in its operating markets. Gas, pharmacy and travel were the ancillary businesses that benefited in the quarter, while Chief Financial Officer Gary Millerchip said gasoline had a major effect on top-line sales. Costco also received $184 million in tariff refund payments during the quarter, about one-third of the total refunds expected in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027. The company said it was reinvesting most of the refunds through price reductions on everyday products, a strategy management said could support membership growth, renewals and store visits. The stock remained below its 52-week high of $1,096.50 but above its low of $844.06, and was up 7.6% year-to-date in 2026.
