Crusoe has ended plans to use 29 Boom Supersonic Superpower turbines, abandoning a $1.25 billion launch-customer agreement that was intended to supply 1.21 gigawatts of capacity to AI data centers. Boom CEO Blake Scholl said the turbines are no longer part of Crusoe’s near-term primary power mix, while Crusoe confirmed it is no longer doing business with Boom and will select energy solutions on a site-by-site basis. Crusoe’s 1.2-gigawatt Abilene campus for Oracle and OpenAI is powered by the grid, with gas turbines used only for backup, while a separate 900-megawatt Microsoft campus in Abilene is planned to run on on-site gas turbines. Boom said it expects to deliver about 250 megawatts of Superpower capacity to other sites next year and is targeting 1 gigawatt in 2028.
