Binance explained address poisoning, a crypto wallet scam that uses lookalike wallet addresses and human error rather than hacking. Attackers identify wallets with recurring transactions, create addresses matching the first and last characters of legitimate ones, and send small zero-value or dust transactions that appear in the target's history. Victims may later copy the wrong address and send funds to the scammer, with recovery generally impossible because blockchain transactions are irreversible. Binance said the tactic has been reported on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and other networks using long hexadecimal addresses. It recommends verifying full addresses, using address-book allowlists and making small test transfers.
