Aave V4’s Equities Hub on Base allows eligible non-U.S. users to deposit Coinbase-issued tokenized shares of Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla as collateral for USDC loans. The tokens represent certificates linked to underlying shares held in segregated custody at Alpaca Securities, giving holders economic exposure to the equities rather than a merely synthetic price reference. Chainlink provides the collateral valuations. The new use case expands tokenized equities into DeFi lending, but Base’s market remains shallow: about $1 billion changed hands over 30 days, with activity concentrated in a few stocks and Aerodrome. Aave limits collateral factors to 65% to 79% across the seven equities, while thin reserves could amplify price declines during forced liquidations. Chainlink holds the last stock price over weekends and U.S. holidays as borrowers continue accruing interest, potentially weakening health factors before markets reopen. Access remains limited to eligible non-U.S. users because the assets are Regulation S securities.
