South Korean insurers are expanding health policies that replenish treatment coverage limits, allowing repeated payouts for serious illnesses instead of relying solely on one-time diagnosis benefits. DB Insurance introduced such coverage last month for cancer, brain and heart diseases, restoring the original limits 10 years after enrollment regardless of claims. Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance added a similar system to its July-launched ON Tongbojang product, covering specified treatment costs across disease categories and replenishing limits every 10 years. Kyobo Life Insurance’s Kyobo Re-fill Health Whole Life Insurance, released last month, sets treatment-cost limits of up to 10 times the basic enrollment amount. The trend began last year with Heungkuk Fire & Marine Insurance’s Platinum Health Reset Wallet, which provides up to 1 billion Korean won for specified treatment, hospitalization and nursing-care costs and replenishes the limit every 20 years upon contract renewal. Insurers are responding to demand for multiple payouts as cancer and other serious-disease treatments become more prolonged. The maximum advertised amount combines payouts for treatments such as surgery, anticancer therapy and hospitalization; actual benefits depend on the treatment, per-treatment amounts and annual payout limits.
