Sales of interior and furniture products are rising across South Korea as weaker property transactions encourage consumers to improve homes they already occupy rather than move or undertake extensive renovations. CJ ONSTYLE reported a 221% increase in partial-renovation product sales from January through August, including gains of 156% for sink bowls, 270% for premium Artisan sink bowls from June through August, 304% for ceiling fans and 290% for bathroom ventilation fans. Lotte Department Store said lifestyle-category sales rose 15% during the first eight months, the strongest growth in three years, led by large home appliances and imported furniture. The Conran Shop's first-half sales increased 50%, while E-Mart recorded higher sales of decorative goods, storage products, rugs and carpets. Seoul sales and lease transactions fell 13.5% year on year to 204,753 during January-August from 236,708 a year earlier. Retailers are expanding premium offerings, with CJ ONSTYLE introducing Magis and Artemide and Lotte holding a nationwide home-styling promotion.
