Backpack CEO Armani Ferrante says the platform plans to expand its tokenized stock offering on Solana from approximately 200 symbols to 10,000, with a unified API designed to move shares between traditional brokerage accounts and DeFi (decentralized finance) applications. Ferrante outlined the strategy in a video posted by Solana’s official account on September 26, 2026, but Backpack has not disclosed a launch schedule or which securities would receive priority. Backpack’s brokerage service, launched in June of this year, supports United States equities and exchange-traded funds that can be converted into blockchain-based tokens and later reconverted into traditional securities. The platform says brokerage-held assets comply with New York’s Uniform Commercial Code Article 8 and supports dividends, corporate actions and transfers through established systems including ACATS (Automated Customer Account Transfer Service). Token holders can store and transfer the assets through Solana-compatible wallets and use them in DeFi protocols under each application’s terms. However, tokenized securities may provide different rights from conventional shares. For example, Backpack says Micron shareholders receive cash dividends through standard channels, while token holders receive additional tokens through automatic reinvestment, with corporate actions reflected by changes in token balances. The SEC (U.S. securities regulator) said in January that token-related entitlements depend on how each instrument is structured. On September 17, it created a five-year framework allowing qualified platforms to trade tokenized stocks under strict conditions, including equivalent shareholder rights and trading suspensions during halts in the underlying security. The SEC has not publicly identified Backpack as an authorized venue under the framework. Backpack also recently appointed Kyle Samani, previously an executive at Multicoin Capital, to its United States board of directors, while no timetable has been announced for expanding domestic stock-related services.
