Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said XRP is not automatically the best asset for every payment use case, arguing that a stablecoin may better address some customer needs. In remarks from his Jan. 22 appearance at Faena Rose that resurfaced this week, he said XRP could serve as the best bridge asset for one cross-border transaction while a stablecoin could solve another more effectively. Garlinghouse also said he personally owns Solana and does not believe investors must choose between SOL and XRP. He described himself as bullish on several major cryptocurrencies for different reasons, a position consistent with Ripple’s broader multichain strategy. XRP has expanded into the Solana ecosystem through wrapped XRP, or tokenized XRP represented on another blockchain, following the launch of wXRP on Solana. Garlinghouse’s comments also underscore the growing importance of stablecoins (crypto tokens designed to maintain stable value), including Ripple’s RLUSD, which has grown rapidly. Ripple Payments supports settlement through multiple assets. XRP can function as a bridge asset for transferring value, while RLUSD offers predictable dollar-denominated pricing. Ripple CTO David Schwartz has similarly argued that some institutions may prefer XRP when they need neutral bridge liquidity rather than exposure to a particular dollar issuer.
