The NZX 50 fell 17 points, or 0.1%, to 13,795 in Monday morning trading, extending losses from the previous session and following a slight decline in U.S. stock futures. Higher oil prices continued to weigh on sentiment after US President Trump rejected a ceasefire presented by Iran, while persistent energy costs raised concerns about inflation. RBNZ (New Zealand’s central bank) Governor Anna Breman recently warned that inflation could rise if elevated oil prices persist. Investors were also awaiting New Zealand business confidence data for September, China’s PMI (purchasing managers’ index) data, and the U.S. PCE Index (a measure of consumer inflation) and jobs data due this week, which could offer clues about the Fed’s monetary-policy decision at its upcoming meeting. Technology, financial, industrial and real estate stocks were the main drags, led by Gentrack Group, Brisco Group, Sanford, Summerset Group, Infratil, Fletcher Building and Channel Infrastructure.
