South Korean insurers failed to pay or underpaid 961 insurance claims identified in Financial Supervisory Service inspections from 2022 through July, involving 548.4 million won, or approximately $400,000. The data, released on the 28th, was submitted to Rep. Park Sung-hoon of the People Power Party, a member of the National Assembly's National Policy Committee. DB Insurance recorded the largest amount among non-life insurers, while Kyobo Life Insurance had the most cases among life insurers, many involving underpaid accrued interest. The relevant insurers were fined a combined 508 million won. Park called for stronger internal controls and post-payment reviews to prevent omissions that disadvantage policyholders.
