NorthPoint Development has offered $10,000 to each of 4,500 households in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, if the township allows a data-center project in the Pocono foothills. The proposed first building is part of a 15-building development spanning 1,300 acres, implying $45 million in direct household payments. Residents interviewed by the Wall Street Journal questioned the offer, citing noise, water and energy costs, possible effects on property values, and distrust of AI industry figures and local officials. NorthPoint has also proposed up to $120 million over 15 years for schools, emergency services and other community investments. The township rejected the project on zoning grounds last year and enacted a temporary moratorium on data-center construction.
