Daewoong Pharmaceutical (069620.KS) has been selected to lead a state-funded project developing an artificial intelligence platform for designing controlled-release and combination drug formulations and manufacturing processes. The platform will use a target pharmacokinetic (how a drug moves through the body) profile to recommend formulation candidates, predict dissolution, suggest excipients and experimental conditions, and learn from test results. The consortium, backed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, includes Kookmin University, Chung-Ang University and AI Jepharm, with about 5.3 billion won ($3.8 million) in funding through December 2029. Later-stage candidates will be tested in Daewoong Pharmaceutical's development projects and verified through pilot production under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), a quality standard for drug production. The group also plans to commercialize the platform as a web-based subscription service.
