French photonic quantum computing company Quandela plans to identify strategic partners in South Korea over the next two years for technology cooperation and joint development. The program covers quantum chip manufacturing, system integration, demonstrations and real-world operation, with a focus on building the semiconductor-grade production and inspection capabilities needed to scale photonic quantum systems. Chief executive Niccolo Somaschi outlined the Korea strategy and a medium- to long-term roadmap for fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC) at a press conference at Centropolis in Seoul's Jongno district on the 28th. Quandela uses photons, or particles of light, in its quantum computers and has recently worked with Nvidia to connect quantum processing units (QPUs) with graphics processing units (GPUs). The company plans to cooperate with Korean companies and research institutions on photonic module manufacturing, cryogenic control and system integration, and the quantum operating stack. It is also considering a Korean quantum manufacturing consortium and a proof of concept linking QPUs with high-performance computing (HPC). Samsung, SK hynix (000660) and LG Innotek (011070) were named as potential corporate partners. Somaschi said the long-term objective is to develop Korea into a key hub for Quandela's cooperation across Asia.
