Support for New Zealand’s Green Party reached a record 16% in a 1News Verian poll published in late September, while National and Labour each recorded 28% ahead of the November 7 general election. National’s result was its weakest since 2021, while Labour’s was its lowest since February 2024 and down 2 percentage points from August. NZ First polled at 9% and ACT at 11%, but National’s existing coalition with the two parties would not hold a parliamentary majority on those figures. The poll indicated that Labour, the Greens, Te Pati Maori and the Opportunity Party could form a left-leaning bloc with 65 seats, compared with 59 for National, ACT and NZ First. Opportunity polled at 6% and could help determine the next government, although it has never entered Parliament after previously failing to clear the 5% threshold. The survey of 1,004 voters was conducted from September 23 to 27, with 13% undecided or declining to answer.
