Indian equities reversed the previous session’s advance on Monday, with the 30-share BSE Sensex closing 1.5% lower at 72,772, its lowest level since early April. Selling spread across all sectors as renewed geopolitical uncertainty and a sharp rebound in crude oil prices weakened sentiment after US President Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to resolve the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Elevated global yields and continued foreign outflows added pressure, while L&T, Power Grid, Adani Ports, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilver, Reliance and SBIN were among the biggest laggards.
