Kakao Pay Securities is advancing plans with Ondo Finance to tokenize Korean stocks and distribute Korean financial assets to overseas investors through global on-chain markets. The initiative, announced at Ondo's September 29 event in Seoul, complements the brokerage's earlier memorandums of understanding with Ondo and Dinari to examine token issuance, redemption, custody, investor records and shareholder rights for tokenized Korean equities. Vice President Jeong In-young said tokenization could make the economic rights attached to shares programmable, allowing trading, settlement and certain asset-related functions to operate in a blockchain-based environment. He said the companies aim to create a regulated gateway for Korean stocks, rather than simply offer foreign tokenized stocks to domestic investors. Commercial deployment remains subject to legal and regulatory review, technical feasibility, investor eligibility and investor-protection measures in Korea and relevant overseas markets. Ondo said investors can access more than 200 tokenized assets through its platform, while Dinari's infrastructure supports 724 tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds across the United States and more than 85 international jurisdictions.
