Sony Group will not participate in CES 2027 in Las Vegas next January, marking its first absence from the event in 60 years. The withdrawal covers the group, its subsidiaries and planned exhibitions by Sony Honda Mobility. Sony says the decision reflects a shift toward entertainment, intellectual property (IP) and creative technologies, reducing the company’s perceived need to attend home-appliance exhibitions. Sony has participated in CES since the inaugural event in 1967, but will not operate its own booth under the Sony Group name next year. Sony Honda Mobility displayed the Afeela electric vehicle and a PlayStation experience space at this year’s event, although Bloomberg said the Afeela project has since been scrapped. Sony’s participation after 2028 remains undecided. Continuous attendance can help companies secure prominent locations and larger booths through relationships with the CTA, the U.S. consumer-technology industry organizer, leaving it unclear whether Sony could regain an entrance-area position if it returns. Panasonic also decided not to participate in CES 2027 after attending every event from 1967 through 2026. Sony said it would suspend participation while maintaining its cooperative relationship with the CTA.
