QatarEnergy will not deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes to Edison, one of its biggest European customers, until the beginning of December. Shipments have been suspended since April under a force majeure notification linked to disruptions caused by the US-Iran war. Qatar’s LNG exports fell 96% by the end of August, with 18 cargoes shipped compared with 509 in the same period last year, according to Reuters calculations and ICIS data. Edison said six additional cargoes would be canceled, bringing undelivered shipments to 35. The Italian subsidiary of French EDF has replaced 23 cargoes, mainly with supplies from US producers. Its long-term QatarEnergy contract covers 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas annually, about 10% of Italy’s total consumption, over 25 years from 2009. The disruption comes as Europe prepares for the coldest months, with Germany and other countries racing to replenish storage while Italy remains confident it will meet the European Union’s target.
