MongoDB is entering its September 29 Investor Day under a sudden leadership transition after Chirantan "CJ" Desai resigned as president and chief executive, effective immediately, to take a senior role at Meta Platforms. Former CEO Dev Ittycheria has returned as interim president and CEO while the board searches for a permanent successor, providing continuity at a company that has reaffirmed its fiscal third-quarter and full-year 2027 guidance. The departure intensified investor concerns after MongoDB shares opened at $310.94 on September 28, $99.50 below their September 25 close of $410.44, erasing roughly $8 billion in market value. William Blair retained its Outperform rating but said the transition raised further questions, while Bank of America called the timing negative because of uncertainty over strategy, leadership stability and execution. Both firms maintained their ratings. MongoDB's underlying operating results remain strong. Fiscal second-quarter revenue rose 30% to $771.8 million, non-GAAP operating margin expanded to 24% from 15%, and free cash flow nearly doubled to $137.6 million. Atlas revenue increased 29% for a fifth consecutive quarter, while the company is expanding AI-related offerings through Atlas Vector Search, Voyage AI and Enterprise Advanced.
