Polymarket plans to launch a new Rust-based trading platform for PM and perpetuals in the fourth quarter, with the end-to-end order book system targeted for October and testing, including market-maker access, scheduled for November. The replacement central limit order book is intended to address recurring outages and scaling constraints in the current system, which has supported most of the platform’s trading activity. Polymarket’s trading infrastructure has experienced problems in recent months, including a prediction-trading API outage that took nine hours to resolve in early September and other operational issues affecting perpetuals in August and September. The platform’s April V2 engine upgrade added support for the USDC-backed Polymarket USD stablecoin, increased execution capacity from more than 1,000 to over 10,000 orders per second and reduced average transaction costs, but did not eliminate uptime problems. Polymarket U.S. weekly volume reached nearly $800 million in September, while overall prediction-market volume hit $63 billion; perps daily volume remained below $150 million. The upgrade’s effect on perps demand remains uncertain, and markets priced a 6% chance of a POLY token release before 2027.
