US Treasury yields extended their rise as a global bond sell-off intensified on concern about persistent inflation, elevated oil prices, heavy government debt issuance and fiscal health. The 30-year Treasury yield rose for a sixth consecutive trading day to 5.58% on Sept. 29, placing it within one basis point of its highest level since 2002. The 10-year yield reached 5.24%, its highest level since 2007. Treasury prices have fallen as yields rose, with US Treasuries down 2.6% so far this year. Higher benchmark yields raise borrowing costs across mortgages, corporate debt and government financing, while investors continue to assess monetary-policy expectations and incoming US economic data.
