Financial complaints received by South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service totaled 78,979 in the first half of 2026, up 39.5% from a year earlier. Insurance complaints accounted for 39,963 cases, or 51% of the total, with disputes focused on insurance benefit calculations and payments. Financial investment complaints rose 86.1% to 9,548 as equity and ETF trading increased during a stock market rally. Complaints against securities firms nearly doubled to 6,559, while asset-management complaints jumped 377.1% to 1,169, largely because several firms failed to obtain final allocations of SpaceX shares intended for ETF inclusion. Complaints against Mirae Asset Securities rose 474.3% to 804. Banking complaints increased 30.5%, led by voice-phishing reports and disputes over deposits, savings and mistaken transfers. The FSS said complaint growth was temporary and that volumes in July and August remained at typical levels, indicating stabilization.
