Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) plans to expand its foundry customer base to roughly four times its 2017 level by 2029, after the business has already grown to about three times that level. The company is shifting its portfolio from mobile products toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC), which accounted for 5% of the foundry business in 2017 and 28% currently. Samsung aims to raise HPC's share to 66% by 2029, when it expects HPC customers to represent a majority of its customer base and HPC to comprise well over half of revenue. The company plans to begin mass production of its SF2P third-generation 2-nanometer process in 2028 and SF1.4 1.4-nanometer process in 2029. It also plans initial operations at its first Taylor, Texas, fab late this year, construction of a second Taylor fab within the year and mass production there in 2030.
