OCI to anchor semiconductor materials cluster in Gunsan area

  • OCI will anchor the Gunsan area of a semiconductor chemical materials cluster.
  • 45 billion won in government support and 830 billion won in private investment are planned.
  • The cluster covers Gunsan, Iksan and Wanju and runs for five years.

OCI (456040) will serve as the anchor company for the Gunsan area of a specialized semiconductor chemical materials cluster covering Gunsan, Iksan and Wanju in Jeonbuk State. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy designated the area at the 18th Committee on Materials, Parts and Equipment Competitiveness. The cluster will receive about 45 billion won in government support and attract about 830 billion won in private investment over five years to stabilize South Korea’s semiconductor materials supply chain and improve industry competitiveness. OCI will upgrade technology and expand production of ultra-high-purity materials. Its Gunsan plant produces semiconductor-grade polysilicon for wafer manufacturing and phosphoric acid for wafer etching, with annual capacities of 4,700 tons and 25,000 tons, respectively. OCI is expanding phosphoric acid capacity to 30,000 tons annually and also produces hydrogen peroxide for cleaning and etching in Iksan. The company is developing specialty etchants and a wafer reclaim business for semiconductor packaging as it seeks to broaden its advanced materials portfolio.
