President Lee Jae-myung instructed Hong Ji-sun, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to pursue bold and rapid housing supply measures, saying the nation's fate depended on housing supply. At a closed-door Cabinet meeting at the presidential compound on the 29th, Lee reaffirmed housing, jobs and finance as the government's three core social policies for supporting low- and middle-income households. The housing stability plan targets 1.19 million homes, while other measures include national employment programs and expanded inclusive finance. Lee cited the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's 1.1-percentage-point upgrade to South Korea's growth forecast, to 3.7%, the largest revision among the Group of 20 economies, and said surplus tax revenue should support efforts to reduce polarization and inequality. He asked officials to secure land for development, explain recent increases in metropolitan-area construction starts and move-in volumes, resolve staffing shortages at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Land & Housing Corporation, and strengthen policy communication. Lee also highlighted declines in deaths from industrial accidents and suicides and fatalities linked to safety incidents and disasters, urging officials to communicate the government's achievements in saving lives. Ahead of next month's parliamentary audit, he said false attacks and exaggerations should be challenged but criticism should be welcomed and used to correct mistakes.
