Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is reportedly scouting the Dallas, Texas, area for a second major U.S. manufacturing location that could include six advanced wafer fabrication plants. The potential Texas hub would build on TSMC’s Arizona expansion, where the company’s planned investment had reached $265 billion by July 2026, up from an initial $12 billion commitment in 2020. TSMC’s Arizona operations include multiple logic fabs, packaging facilities and a research and development center; its first fab began volume production of 4-nanometer chips in late 2024, while the second is targeted to produce 3-nanometer chips by late 2027, followed by 2-nanometer technology in later phases. The company aims to eventually locate about 30% of its global 2-nanometer-and-smaller-node capacity in Arizona. The Texas proposal, first reported by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News citing supply-chain sources, remains under evaluation. It would respond to demand from U.S. customers including Nvidia, Apple and AMD, while broadening U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and increasing competitive pressure on Intel and Samsung.
