The Indian rupee fell nearly 0.2% to 96.1450 per dollar, touching a two-month low as rising oil prices heightened pressure on the net energy-importing economy. Brent crude rose more than 1.5% to $107 per barrel as concerns over Middle East supply disruptions linked to the US-Iran conflict outweighed signs of recovering regional exports. Higher oil prices have also weighed on Indian equities and bonds, while foreign investors have withdrawn $3.7 billion so far in September. Earlier market pressure had also come from higher US Treasury yields and expectations of another Federal Reserve rate increase, with the 10-year yield near a nearly two-decade high and October hike odds near 70%. The rupee's breach of 96 could prompt the RBI to increase intervention, supported by a recent buildup in foreign-exchange reserves.
