KT SAT recorded 3.318 billion Korean won in first-half revenue from its non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellite business, equivalent to 3.5% of total revenue of 95.862 billion won. The business was separately reported for the first time this year after KT SAT began supplying domestic customers with Starlink and OneWeb services in December last year. Rather than building its own low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellation, KT SAT combines networks operated by SpaceX and Eutelsat with the Mugunghwa satellite and terrestrial communications infrastructure. Customers include ships, KLCSM and Lotte Property & Development, while KT SAT is working with KT and HD Hyundai on applications for shipbuilding, vessel delivery and terrestrial wireless integration. The model reduces the capital burden of satellite ownership but leaves KT SAT responsible for network usage fees and other costs. Profit from the newly categorized business was not disclosed separately, and its profitability will depend on whether KT SAT can add value through network configuration and operation rather than simply reselling capacity.
