The Korea Exchange plans to divide the KOSDAQ market into two segments next year, separating heavier-weight companies into a premium sector from underperforming firms. Choi Ji-woo, a senior executive at KRX, said the structure is intended to help investors identify promising companies more efficiently and make the secondary market more reliable. With about 1,800 companies listed on KOSDAQ, the exchange also plans to reform the delisting process for potentially unviable firms. KRX will hold a public hearing in the fourth quarter to begin work on the system. Earlier planning had referred to a tentative KOSDAQ Select tier and a separate management group, along with segment-based indices and stronger delisting rules, but the latest outline describes a broader two-tier structure without final inclusion criteria.
