President Lee Jae-myung proposed raising discount support for agricultural and livestock products during next year's Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays to 1 trillion won ($720 million), up from 160 billion won allocated in the main budget. The proposal follows a 149 billion won program before Chuseok, whose traditional-market component was limited to 300 markets nationwide. Lee suggested using the Future Response Fund, an idea likely to intensify a partisan dispute because opposition parties criticize the fund as discretionary financing. At the Cabinet meeting, Lee also urged ministries to take responsibility for bureau-chief-level appointments, demanded tougher action over police case fabrication, and instructed acting commissioner general Kim Jong-cheol to strengthen investigation fairness and internal controls. Lee separately praised Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan after meeting U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick during his recent trip to New York. At a third public-private review of mega-projects, Lee said industrial complexes and residential infrastructure should be planned together from the outset; it was the first meeting since the Blue House established a dedicated office for the national strategic investment adviser.
