CarMax Inc. reported fiscal 2027 second-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.16 per share, surpassing analyst estimates of $0.73, as sales rose 19.5% to $7.88 billion. Combined retail and wholesale used-vehicle sales increased 14.7% to 387,735 units, while CarMax Auto Finance income climbed 32.1% to $135.6 million, helped by a lower provision for loan losses and gains from auto-loan sales. Retail sales growth was supported by sharper pricing, though gross profit per retail used vehicle fell $111 to $2,105. Management expects gross profit per retail unit to decline year over year in the fiscal third and fourth quarters while pursuing price competitiveness through cost and logistics efficiencies. Carvana shares rose 6.65% to $64.49 on Tuesday after CarMax's results highlighted resilient used-car demand.
