Ric Edelman has sharply increased his recommended bitcoin allocation, moving from the 1% position he advocated several years ago to 10% for conservative investors, 25% for moderate portfolios and 40% for aggressive ones. Speaking at the Bitcoin Treasuries Conference in Manhattan on Sept. 28, the founder of Edelman Financial Engines said bitcoin could become a core portfolio holding rather than a small satellite allocation. Edelman also argued that the traditional 60/40 portfolio of stocks and bonds is broken as people live longer and require greater exposure to growth assets. He said a 1% bitcoin position may be too small to justify the education, volatility and reputational risks for advisers, while a double-digit allocation would have a more meaningful effect on client outcomes. Edelman sees bitcoin reaching $500,000 by 2030 and said a 2% allocation of global assets to BTC could imply a price of about $1 million per coin. Bitcoin's all-time high above $126,000 was set in October 2025, while it has recently traded around $83,000. The projections depend on continued institutional adoption, capital inflows and bitcoin retaining its role as a scarce global asset. The comments prompted debate on X, with Richard Byworth calling Edelman an extremely credible allocator and Mike Alfred noting that Edelman previously discussed allocations of about 1% to 10% in conversations during 2016 and 2017. David Gokhshtein argued that $1 million bitcoin could arrive within the next few years, while The Bitcoin Therapist said a 1% allocation of global assets could support a $500,000 price. Edelman added that he is less focused than many crypto traders on bitcoin's traditional four-year cycle.
