The Toronto Maple Leafs confirmed that forward Kirill Marchenko signed a six-year extension one day after joining the team in a blockbuster trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Toronto did not disclose the contract’s financial terms, but Marchenko’s agent previously said it was worth $75 million, or $12.5 million per season. The 26-year-old Russian winger is entering the final season of a three-year contract with a $3.85 million cap hit. His new deal, which begins next season, will have Toronto’s second-highest average annual value, behind captain Auston Matthews’ $13.25 million. Marchenko scored 27 goals and 40 assists in 76 games last season and has reached at least 20 goals in each of his four NHL campaigns, including career highs of 31 goals and 74 points in 2024-25. He joins Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares and No. 1 overall draft pick Gavin McKenna in a forward group reshaped during the offseason. Toronto acquired Marchenko, fellow forward Miles Wood and goaltender Elvis Merzlikins from Columbus in exchange for forwards Matthew Knies and Steven Lorentz, defenseman Emil Andrae and a second-round pick in the 2027 draft. The Maple Leafs were scheduled to host the rival Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday to open the 2026-27 season.
