AMD Chair and Chief Executive Lisa Su is expected to return to South Korea around Oct. 8 for meetings with government officials, AI chip companies and potentially major corporate leaders, including Samsung Electronics executives. The visit follows her March trip, when she met Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee and senior semiconductor executives to discuss AI-chip cooperation. Samsung and AMD have since signed a memorandum of understanding on next-generation AI memory and computing technology, with Samsung selected as a priority HBM4 supplier for AMD's Instinct MI455X AI accelerator. They also agreed to develop DDR5 solutions for AMD's next-generation EPYC processors and Helios rack-scale AI platform. Su is expected to meet Deputy Prime Minister and Science and ICT Minister Bae Kyung-hoon, while a roundtable with Korean AI chip companies is under consideration. The trip comes as demand for HBM and server DRAM rises with the expansion of generative AI services, AI agents and physical AI applications. Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and LG Electronics said they could not confirm meeting schedules with Su.
