Hyundai Motor’s Tucson has surpassed 10.6 million cumulative global sales since its 2004 launch, excluding China-only models, according to investor relations data released on the 30th. The SUV is the third Hyundai Motor Group model to reach that milestone, after the Avante and Accent, and the first domestically developed SUV to do so. Growth accelerated with successive generations, led by the fifth generation’s roughly 3.373 million units sold from 2020 through August this year. Hyundai has shifted the Tucson from an export model to a globally produced vehicle, with overseas plants accounting for 60.6% of cumulative sales outside South Korea and markets outside South Korea generating 91.0% of total sales. The United States has contributed 2,227,154 units since the Tucson’s 2004 U.S. debut, while hybrid penetration rose to 32.5% of U.S. sales in 2024 before easing to 31.0% last year and 27.8% this year. Hyundai plans to launch a fully redesigned fifth-generation Tucson in major markets including North America and Europe starting next year, supported by local production and a broader hybrid lineup.
