The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is investigating trades made through a Kalshi account allegedly linked to former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) between December 2024 and January 2025. The trades concerned whether former President Biden would pardon Kinzinger, who was later pardoned alongside members of the House panel that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Screenshots showed Kinzinger made $823 on roughly 25 trades, although he said he mostly lost money. Kinzinger denies wrongdoing, saying he had left Congress two years earlier, had no nonpublic information and never discussed the pardons with anyone. A Kalshi source said the company reported the account and trades to the CFTC, described the investigation as routine and said it attempted to contact Kinzinger. Kinzinger said he had not been contacted by either Kalshi or the CFTC. The inquiry comes as regulators and prediction-market platforms intensify efforts to address insider trading and conflicts involving political figures.
