Hyundai Corporation plans to combine trading with manufacturing and develop 10 overseas regions into independently operating global headquarters over the next five years. Chairman Chung Mong-hyeok announced the strategy at a 50th-anniversary event attended by about 600 domestic and international employees. The company plans to acquire additional mid-sized manufacturing businesses after purchasing automotive parts company Lucinova last year, while upgrading its NEST (regional collaboration system) network. Singapore and Los Angeles are targeted for global-headquarters status within three years, followed by Frankfurt and Tokyo within five years. The plan builds on Hyundai Corporation’s history since its 1976 establishment, including resource-development projects, trade milestones and a return to the Hyundai family in 2009.
