Asiana Airlines will operate 73 mileage special flights on five routes to Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Hanoi and Manila from November through December 10, roughly two and a half months before its merger with Korean Air. The airline plans to release all remaining seats on the flights as mileage award tickets, expanding redemption opportunities before the integration. One-way awards cost 15,000 to 30,000 miles before peak-season surcharges. Korean Air and Asiana had around 4 trillion Korean won in combined deferred mileage revenue at the end of the first half of this year, creating a substantial liability for the merged airline even though Asiana’s mileage program will remain separate for a period after the merger.
