HS Hyosung Advanced Materials is investing $100 million, or about 140 billion won, to build a large-scale carpet production base in Da Nang, Vietnam. The company held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 29 at the Tam Thang Industrial Zone. The project adds 110,000 square meters to the 390,000 square meters already occupied by tire cord and airbag plants operated by its Quang Nam subsidiary, creating total production infrastructure of 500,000 square meters. The company plans to complete BCF yarn, automotive carpet and commercial carpet plants by 2029. The site will use vertical integration, connecting imported raw materials and BCF yarn production with processing, spinning, backing and laminating to create an integrated yarn-carpet production system. HS Hyosung Advanced Materials is also targeting growing demand for eco-friendly mobility materials with bio-based PET carpet containing 30% sugarcane-derived raw materials, along with recycled nylon and PET carpets made from discarded fishing nets and used PET bottles. CEO Lim Jin-dal said demand for sustainable interior materials is rising rapidly around electric vehicles and that the company aims to lead market trends through its technology and integrated production system. The mobility materials business is expected to gain further momentum after the Tam Thang plant is completed in 2029.
